How to Access Seafarer Emails Using a Web Browser

Introduction

In this guide, you will learn about how to access your seafarer email accounts using a web browser. If you prefer

Do note that this only applies to personal accounts and not vessel role-based accounts e.g. Master, Chief Engineer etc. This guide will cover the following areas:

  • First time login
  • Settings
  • Setting up multi-factor authentication

First time login

Before proceeding with the following steps, please make sure that you have your account username and password, which would have been provided by your shipping company. Alternatively, your company may have sent you an activation link. If you experience any difficulties or have questions, please contact your shipping company for assistance.

Step 1: Access the Dualog Mail login page

If your account was shared with you using an activation link, proceed to the next step.

Open a web browser e.g. Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and go to http://crew.dualog.com/ and log in with the username and password that was shared with you.

Step 2: Activate your account

After logging in for the first time, you'll be prompted to set a new password according to your company's password policy. To ensure your account's security, it is good practice to create a strong, unique password that you don't use elsewhere.

Once you have set your new password, you will see the following screen.

Click on Go to inbox to access your inbox and start reading your messages. To change your account settings, click on Settings. This will be covered in a later section of this guide.

Setting up multi-factor authentication

Adding multi-factor authentication (MFA) provides an additional layer of security when users log in, reducing the chances of unauthorised access by adding another layer of identity verification on top of your username and password.

You have two options to add MFA to your account when using Dualog Mail: Time-based One-Time Password (TOTP) via an authenticator app e.g. Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator etc., or using a phone number to receive a WhatsApp or SMS message. If enabled, you will need to set up your MFA after resetting your password for the first time after activating your account.

If MFA is enforced by your company, you will be prompted to set it up after changing your password upon first login. When setting up the MFA for the first time, you can select your preferred method. It is recommended to use the TOTP method via an authenticator app so that you will be able to perform the MFA even if you do not have access to SMS or WhatsApp.

Setting up MFA using TOTP

  1. Select the Authenticator App option when prompted.
  2. Select "Link Authenticator App"
  3. Copy the code that appears, and paste it into your authenticator app e.g. Microsoft Authenticator, Google Authenticator, Aegis etc.
  4. Complete the setup process in your authenticator app. Once the setup is complete, you should see a 6-digit code that will refresh itself over time.
  5. Go back to the Dualog Mail app and paste the code from your authenticator app into Dualog Mail app.
  6. In the next step, be sure to note down your recovery codes. These codes can be used in case you lose access to your authenticator app e.g. you lose your device.

  7. After you have noted down your codes and clicked next, you will return to the previous page, and clicking on Continue will log out out of your account.
  8. Upon next login, reenter the 6 digit code from your authenticator app and you will be able to begin using the application.

Setting up MFA Using your phone number

If you choose the phone number option, you will be asked to select your country and provide your local mobile number to set up MFA via a one-time password (OTP).

You can then choose between WhatsApp or SMS as your authentication method. You can switch between these options whenever prompted for an MFA token in the future. Do note that if you select SMS as your authentication method, you may not be able to use it at sea where there may not be access to SMS. If you choose WhatsApp, you will not be able to access your MFA in areas where WhatsApp is not accessible. For these reasons, we highly recommend using the TOTP option above.

Once you have selected your preferred method, you will receive an OTP. Paste the OTP you have received into the Dualog Mail mobile app to verify the code. The example below shows the WhatsApp method.
