Failover handling in Dualog Network Control

Introduction

Connection Suite now includes an improved method for detecting internet carrier disconnections using ICMP (ping).

This enhancement allows Dualog Network Control to more accurately monitor the status of each carrier’s connectivity, resulting in more reliable failover behavior.

The feature is particularly valuable for vessels equipped with multiple onboard internet gateways. In addition, enhanced carrier control has been introduced, enabling the captain to easily enable or disable carriers manually through the ship’s user interface.

Steps to configure the new failover settings (Dualog Apps Portal)

1. Select “Connection Suite” under the main menu
2. Click on the Network Control option under the sub-menu
3. From the network traffic overview list, find the ship you want to configure
4. Click on the ship name, and the list of carriers will be displayed
5. To configure the carrier, click on the icon to the right of the name and then click
“Configure”
6. A popup with the failover settings will appear

The three options available are “Initial state”, “Automatic testing” and “Allow override”.

  • Initial state defines the default status of the gateway. This is the state applied when Network Control starts, before any connectivity tests or manual overrides take place.

  • Automatic testing determines whether the system performs automatic health checks on the gateway. When enabled, the new WAN connectivity test is used to monitor the carrier.

  • Allow override specifies whether users can manually enable or disable the carrier from the ship’s user interface.

By default, autotest is enabled for all carriers (except FleetBroadband and Iridium OpenPort).

Override connection from the ship user interface

A new "Connections" section has been added to the main menu of the ship’s user interface. On this page, users can view the current status of each carrier’s connection and manually enable or disable a carrier, provided the previous configuration permits it.
