Introduction
If you are getting an IMAP SERVER ALERT message similar to the below image, some of the emails stored in your local Outlook database file are too large for the Dualog IMAP server.
Explanation
The maximum size limit for email messages on the Dualog IMAP Mail Server is 50 MB per email. Currently a small percentage of Dualog users are experiencing an error where an email message gets mishandled during receipt within Outlook, causing the email size to be much larger than it should be. When outlook then tries to re-sync this oversized message with the Dualog IMAP Mail Server you will then see this error message in Outlook.
Steps to Resolve
Perform the following steps to identify the large emails and remove them from Outlook.
- Open Outlook.
- Click on the search bar located at the top of the Outlook Window and click inside it to begin searching.
- Ensure the drop-down on the left of the search bar has "Current Mailbox" selected.

Type the following into the search bar and press 'Enter':
messagesize: > 50 mb. Your search bar with the text entered should look like the below image. - It will then display display a list of email messages that it has discovered that meet the search criteria on the screen. Note: For this specific error, Outlook does not correctly report the actual size of the messages.
- To confirm if one of the displayed messages is larger than 50 MB in size;
a) Double click on one of the messages to open it in its own window.
b) Go click on File in the top menu bar, and look at the size reported next to the Properties section. This will show the actual size of the message.
- Take a screenshot of the messages listed, and save this picture to your desktop or downloads folder.
- Once you have a screenshot of the messages that are too large, select all of the messages displayed, and delete them.

Next, you must locate your 'Deleted Items' folder, and right click and select "Empty Folder"
- Lastly, to restore the emails that you just deleted, email the screenshot you took earlier in step 7 which shows the expected size, subject, and time received to support@dualog.com requesting for those emails to be re-delivered.
- You should now no longer be receiving IMAP Server alerts about large emails.
