INTRODUCTION
In addition to limiting data usage and file size per sent file, Dualog Drive is also able to limit bandwidth usage so that the amount of data sent and received will have as little impact as possible on the rest of internet traffic onboard the vessel.
Limits can be adjusted according to the features of the equipment installed on the ship and therefore, Bandwidth Control is directly related to Carrier Detection and depends on it.
REQUIREMENTS
In order to activate Bandwidth Control within Dualog Drive, a few criteria need to be met:
At least one carrier needs to be configured on the relevant ship in the "Set up Carrier" section of Dualog Digital Platform. |
A set of required carrier parameters must be available and measurable: cap bandwidth, currently available bandwidth, latency, average packet loss per time unit, current time zone, price per volume, data cap. |
Once Dualog Drive is active on the Digital Platform and the client has successfully been installed onboard one or more ships, a few options will be available, among other also Bandwidth Control, under "Advanced destination options".
Basic bandwidth control measures include the ability to block the file transfer activity when no carrier is detected on board (Carrier detection is, therefore, most probably switched off) and when the active carrier onboard is unknown.
This can happen when two ports are concurrently available or there is no port at all configured or available on board the vessel.
Once one or more carriers have been configured in the Carrier Configuration of the Dualog Digital Platform, Dualog Drive will detect the available carrier automatically by trying to connect on every configured IP/port combination. The client will receive the configuration from the platform itself.
The combination that will respond is the one that will be considered online and used by Dualog Drive.
