Dualog Business Mail - Spam Score Quarantine

INTRODUCTION

If an email exceeds a predefined size limit, it will either be placed in quarantine or rejected if the quarantine feature is not enabled.

As an additional layer of filtering and security, Spam Score Quarantine is also available.

When enabled, all incoming emails with a spam score exceeding the defined threshold are quarantined before reaching the intended vessels.

Dualog MailDefence evaluates and determines the spam score.

This article guides you through enabling the Spam Score Quarantine feature, adjusting the spam score threshold, and releasing emails that have been quarantined based on that threshold.

ENABLING OF SPAM SCORE QUARANTINE

  1. Upon logging into the Dualog portal with your account, proceed to Connection Suite > Email
  2. Go to Settings > Under the Quarantine section, click on Edit settings
  3. Click on Edit Threshold
  4. The best practice would be to select "7-10" option (the selection option can tweaked as needed to meet your requirements).
  5. Save Changes

Note: The spam score threshold can be adjusted at any time. Any changes will apply only to newly received emails.

Using the recommended quarantine threshold of 7–10 as an example, email handling is as follows:

  • Spam score 0–4
Emails are delivered directly to vessels.
  • Spam score 4–7
Emails are delivered to vessels, but the subject line is tagged with {SPAM?}.
  • Spam score 7–10
Emails are quarantined and must be manually released via the Dualog Apps portal. Once released, they are delivered to vessels with the {SPAM?} tag in the subject.
  • Spam score 10+
Emails are automatically blocked and cannot be released.

Editing the spam score threshold for quarantine changes the score at which emails are quarantined or sent to vessels.

If the Moderate setting is applied under Spam Score Quarantine, emails with a spam score between 4–10 will still have the {SPAM?} tag added to the subject line.

However, only emails with a spam score between 9–10 will be quarantined and require release through the Dualog Apps portal.

RELEASING OF SPAM SCORE QUARANTINED EMAILS

  1. Upon logging into the Dualog portal with your account, proceed to Connection Suite > Email
  2. Click on Quarantine Messages
  3. Locate email(s) that is/are quarantined due to "spam score"
  4. Click on the three vertical dots to the far right to approve, reject or check the email headers for further assessment of the legitimacy of the email
