Dualog Portal - Hardware ID Reset

INTRODUCTION

Each time the Dualog Connection Suite is uninstalled from one server and reinstalled on a different server, whether onboard a ship or at an office, it is necessary to manually confirm the new server onshore. This process is vital to prevent the possibility of having multiple installations of our services running on the same vessel or office account.

When a Dualog Connection Suite installation requires a Hardware ID reset, attempting to connect on the new server will result in an error message stating "Connection blocked by the Dualog Cloud."

Note: This procedure is not necessary when installing Dualog Connection Suite for the first time.

THE HARDWARE ID

The installation hardware id, as recognized by Connection Suite, relies on the volume-id of the system drive. You may check on it as follows,

On the installation,

  1. Open the Windows Command Prompt
  2. Type in the snippet below, assuming your system drive is on the C: drive
vol c:

This will print an 8-digit Hex code that uniquely identifies the local drive.

On the Dualog portal,

  1. Click on the burger-menu in the upper left corner to open the Main Menu
  2. Click Main Menu > Connection Suite > CS Ship Setup
  3. Select the vessel
  4. In the Ship Info section, the registered hardware ID for an installation is found beneath the details.
  5. If the vessel is registered correctly , the value you find here should match volume id found on the vessel in steps 1-2 above.

WORKING WITH A CLONED INSTALLATION

In some cases, new Connection Suite installations may be applied to cloned installations.

In such cases, after resetting the hardware Id on the portal it is very important that you re-generate the volume id, before it connects to shore for the first time. This is to ensure that the registered hardware Id correctly identifies this installation.

Please note,

The volume id must be uniquely set per vessel, as it corresponds to the Dualog hardware Id that uniquely identifies a vessel installation.

RESET THE HARDWARE ID FOR A SHIP

  1. Login to Dualog Portal with an admin account with enough privileges to reset the hardware ID of a ship.
  2. Go to Connection Suite > CS Ship Setup (Alternative Direct Link)
  3. Select the vessel that requires a reset of the Hardware ID.
  4. Under the General tab > Ship Info > Click on "Reset Hardware ID"
  5. The user will be prompted with a confirmation message > Click on "Reset Hardware ID" to proceed.
  6. The Hardware ID for the intended Vessel or the office installation is now reset.

The user may try connecting from the new installation and verify that the previous "Connection blocked by the Dualog Cloud " error message is now gone.

New Hardware ID will be registered upon a successful connection from the new installation.
